REMEMBERING DUANE ALLMAN: On this day (October 29th) in 1971, Duane Allman of The Allman Brothers Band was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle on a Macon, Georgia street while trying to swerve to avoid a tractor-trailer. He was three weeks shy of his 25th birthday. Duane Allman’s funeral service was held Monday, November 1, 1971 at Snow’s Memorial Chapel. In the chapel packed with family and friends, many of the musicians who had been part of Duane’s life were in attendance to mourn his death. Record producer Jerry Wexler gave the eulogy for Duane. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Allman at #2 in their list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time, second only to Jimi Hendrix.
Happy Birthday: Denny Laine, Peter Green, and Kevin DuBrow.
