Sony Releases World’s First CD Player in 1982 – October 1, 2015


SONY RELEASES THE WORLD’S FIRST CD PLAYER. On this day (October 1st) in 1982, Sony launched the world’s first commercially produced CD player in Japan, the CDP-101, for 168,000 yen ($730.00 USD). That’s the equivalent of about $1,630.00 today. The CDP-101 was distributed worldwide in March of 1983.
