Shell Lang – Voice, Serenata Chorale (Faculty Member Since 2020): Shell Lang has had a rich history of vocal performance, playing Tallulah in Western Carolina University’s production of Hotel Casablanca by Thomas Pasatiri, the campaign consultant and the crazy cat lady in Speed Dating Tonight by Michael Ching, Voluptua in La Pizza Con Funghi by Seymour Barab, Madame Butterfly, and Suor Angelica by Puccini, and more. Shell was also the soprano soloist in Poulenc’s Gloria, singing alongside the Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra while they were in residency at Western Carolina University, and was awarded the winner of the Western Carolina Civic Orchestra Solo Competition with the performance of “Ach, ich fühl’s” from Die Zauberflöte by Mozart. Shell has performed as a professional singer with The Lake Junaluska Singers and currently performs as a cantor at Church of the Incarnation in Highlands, NC.
In addition to performing, Shell is passionate about teaching and building loving and supportive relationships with students. Shell has taught music and directed choirs in K-12 settings, particularly loving time spent as an elementary music teacher at West Buncombe Elementary School in Asheville, NC. As a singer and educator, Shell has a vast knowledge base of many different voice types and experiences. “I want every student to feel safe to sing as themselves in my studio, walk out equipped with the knowledge of healthy technique and confidence to sing whatever style they desire, and to know they always have someone to support and encourage them.”
Shell is originally from Royal Palm Beach, Florida, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree and a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Western Carolina University.
