Jeff Lott

Jeff Lott – Drums & Percussion (Faculty Member Since 2022): Jeff Lott brings a wealth of experience and a lifelong dedication to the drums to his students at the Music Academy of WNC. A Charlotte, NC native, Jeff’s rhythmic journey began at age nine, playing with his dad’s band a full year before band was even offered in middle school. This early start quickly led to his first stage performance at age eleven at the legendary Double Door Inn in Charlotte. His passion for percussion continued to grow as he was very active in band programs throughout high school and college. In high school, he distinguished himself as Battery Captain on the drumline at Myers Park High School. He pursued his passion formally at Brevard College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, specializing in Percussion studies under Dr. Laura Franklin. During his college years, Jeff continued to demonstrate leadership, serving as Vice President of the Percussion Pedagogy Club. His education was further enriched by master instructors such as Jeff Sipe, Rick Dior, and Donnie Marshall, who instilled in him a comprehensive understanding of diverse drumming techniques and musical approaches.
Since establishing his roots in the WNC area in 2006, Jeff has been an active and sought-after drummer for a variety of local bands, showcasing his versatility across genres. He specializes in Rock and Funk drumming, bringing a powerful and dynamic rhythmic foundation to every performance. Additionally, Jeff has extensive experience playing in church worship bands, further broadening his musical range. In addition to his ongoing work with the acclaimed Andrew Thelston Band (winners of “Best Rock Band” in the Mountain Xpress “Best of WNC” poll in both 2023 and 2024), Jeff recently joined the prog pop band The Remantlists, further expanding his performance footprint. Individually, Jeff’s exceptional drumming was recognized with a “Runner Up in the category of Best Drummer/Percussionist” distinction in the same annual poll, solidifying his reputation in the regional music community. An accomplished recording artist, Jeff has lent his rhythmic expertise to numerous studio projects, working with a wide range of artists and contributing to recordings in diverse musical styles.
Beyond his vibrant performance career, Jeff is profoundly passionate about teaching. He is committed to guiding his students, from beginners to advanced players, in achieving their personal musical aspirations, drawing upon his broad experience in live performance, studio recording, and his strong foundational background in band programs and leadership roles. He currently resides in Waynesville with his wife, Michelle.
