Matthew Pierce – Cello (Faculty Member Since 2019) – Matthew Pierce (B.M., M.M., Cello Performance) has been teaching and performing with his cello for over twenty years. His previous teaching positions have included the Cedar Rapids School of Music in Iowa, the South Shore Conservatory in Massachusetts, and Evangel University in Missouri, with numerous other appearances as a sectional coach or guest clinician. Highlights of Matthew’s orchestral career include a combined twelve seasons as principal cellist of the Plymouth Philharmonic and the Eastern Connecticut Symphonies in New England, additional seasons with the Missouri, South Dakota, and Springfield Symphonies in the Midwest, and several upcoming concerts with the Greenville Symphony in South Carolina.
Matthew and his wife have recently moved to East Tennessee from Springfield, MO, where he ran a private studio while serving as the Springfield Symphony’s principal cellist. When not playing or teaching, Matthew can usually be found repairing instruments, making batons, exploring the beautiful mountains of Tennessee, or learning how to make Indian food.
